About ISPN…
The Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN) started in the year 1991
with objectives of
·
Enhancing the advanced knowledge and skills in the
field of Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing.
·
To provide platform for discussion and deliberation on
evidence based practice.
·
To create awareness and to translate the research
findings in MH nursing practice.
The ISPN was registered under the
co-operative society act in 1991 at Bangalore, Under the guidance of Dr. K.
Reddemma, the present president of ISPN. First year only about 50 members
were enrolled. Late Dr.H.M. Gangadharaiah was the first President of ISPN.
At present, there are 1400 life
members and about 100 associate life
members
a. The eligibility for Life
members
1.
Should possess diploma in psychiatric nursing. Or
2.
MSc in psychiatric nursing or
3.
Ph.d in psychiatric nursing
4.
Life Membership fee Rs.1500/-
b. Associate life members
1.
Any other Post Graduate specialties in nursing are eligible to become
associate life members.
2.
Associate Life Membership Fee - Rs.1000/-
c. Foreign Membership fee
1.
Foreign Life Membership - $500
2.
Foreign Associate Life Membership - $300
d. Application fee Rs. 100/-

ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCES
ISPN organized conferences every
year from 2002 till date
·
1st National conference was organized at NIMHANS Bangalore in Feb.2002 on
the theme "Child
Psychiatric Nursing".
·
2nd conference was conducted at JSS College of nursing, Mysore , in Feb. 2003 on the theme
"Mental Health, Sexuality and Psychiatric Nursing".
·
3rd conference was conducted at Savitha College
of nursing, Chennai, in Feb.2004 on the theme
Women’s Mental Health: Psychiatric Nursing Perspective".
·
4th conference and the 1st International conference were organized at
NIMHANS, Bangalore
in
Feb. 2005 on the theme “Adolescent Mental Health Issues and Problems:
Psychiatric Nursing
Perspective”.
·
5th conference was held at Father Muller College Of Nursing, Mangalore,
in Feb. 2006 on the
theme "Geriatric mental health problems: psychiatric Nursing
perspective".
·
The 6th conference was organized at college of nursing, Dayananda medical
college and hospital, at
Ludhiana
, in March, 2007, on the theme "Substance Abuse: Psychiatric Nursing
perspective".
·
The 7th conference was held at Lisie College of nursing, Cochin in Feb. 2008, on the theme
"Promotion of Mental Health and Prevention of Mental Disorders".
·
The 8th conference and 2nd international conference
was held at NIMHANS, Bangalore ,
in
October, 2009 on the theme “Human Rights in Mental Health Nursing
Practice”.
·
The 9th conference was held at Narayana college of nursing, Nellore ,
in march, 2010, on the
Theme “Community Mental Health Nursing”
·
The 10th conference and 3rd international
conference will be held at P.G. College of Nursing,
Bhilai, in Feb. 2011, on the theme “Complementary and Alternative
Therapies in the Management
of Psychiatric Disorders: Psychiatric Nursing Perspective”.
·
Next National conference is being held at Himalayan college of Nursing,
Dehradun March 10th
to
12th 2012.
The
ISPN is one of the members of the Indian Confederation of Health
Accreditation, (In the year2005), which accreditate health care activities
in India .
The ISPN published the proceedings of
previous conference in the year 2006.
The
general body meeting held during the 5th ISPN conference at Mangalore
decided to initiate fellowship of ISPN. The eligibility criteria for
fellowships suggested were:
Should
be:
1.
The life member of ISPN
2.
Published at least 5 scientific papers in the indexed journals.
3.
Aspirates should apply to the General Secretary with Rs.3500.00 DD in favour
of ISPN for
consideration for fellowship of ISPN.
4.
Significant contribution to the field of Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing.
The
executive body held prior to the 6th national conference resolved to give
honorary fellowship to Sri. T. Dileepkumar, Nursing advisor of Govt. of
India and president of INC. and Dr. K. Reddemma,Professor of Nursing & Dean,
Behavioral Science, NIMHANS and the president of ISPN. The fellowship as
fellow of Indian society of psychiatric nurses was conferred on them during
the 6th national conference of ISPN
at Ludhiana in
March, 2007. During 2nd International conference held at NIMHANS,Bangalore .
The Fellow of Indian society of nurses awarded to Dr. Sandhya Gupta, Dr.
Ramachandra and Dr. Nagarajaiah in October, 2009.Dr.(Mrs) Jasbir Kaur was
awarded the Fellow of Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses in 2011.
Indian Journal of Psychiatric Nursing:
First time in India
The ISPN has publishes its first issue of
Indian Journal of Psychiatric
Nursing in March 2009, the second issue in 2011, the third issue will be
released on the inaugural day of National conference at Dehradun. It is
planned to publish 3 to 4 issues annually. we are announce the ISPN has
eminent Nursing Professionals as Reviewer and Editorial Board members for
the Journals from USA and UK and also contributing Concept article to the
Journals.
Subscription for the Journal:
Individual Institutions can send request for Annual Subscription by
paying DD Rs.1500.00 in favor of ISPN,
to be sent to General Secretary.
